THE old red-brick police cell block which guards the entrance to the dockyard’s Victory Gate will also be refurbished under plans to turn it into a business hub.

Work will begin to develop the building soon and the Portsmouth Naval Base Property Trust says there are already scores of firms interested in setting up a base there.

Defence secretary Philip Hammond, pictured right in one of the disused cells, was shown the building as part of his tour of the dockyard yesterday.

It is expected there will be space for around 16 companies inside the building, while others could use it as a registered business address.
