AN MP is backing her party’s call for a referendum on EU membership.

The Tory MP for Gosport Caroline Dinenage has welcomed the move by fellow Tory James Wharton MP after he tabled a Private Members’ Bill on the issue.

The campaign wants to build pressure from across the political spectrum.

In a statement, Ms Dinenage said: ‘I’ve long supported calls for the people to have a real say on our relationship with Europe.

‘I’m delighted that the Conservative Party has shown its commitment to giving Britain a clear vote and I wholeheartedly support this campaign.

‘With a draft bill on our EU membership requiring cross-party support to pass, I’d urge people to visit LetBritainDecide.com and pledge their support for this campaign.’

A statement from the MP’s office said the new website has been launched to make it easier for people to back the bill.

It added that she had backed a vote calling for a referendum on membership in 2011.
