GOSPORT MP Caroline Dinenage is calling on people to take action on litter in the town.

The MP has backed a campaign by Lee-on-the-Solent Litteraction to encourage people to cut down on single-use plastic bags.

The group is holding a film and presentation evening to teach people about the environmental hazards and what alternatives there are.

Ms Dinenage said: ‘News that plastic bag use rose last year to 6.8 billion shows more needs to be done to tackle this blight on our environment.

‘I am calling on local residents to go along to the event to learn how to say “no” to unnecessary single-use bags.’

The presentation is on April 10 at 7.30pm.

It will be held at the Lee-on-the-Solent Community Centre in Twyford Drive.
