YOUNG drivers are to be targeted in a seatbelt campaign.

Hampshire County Council is set to launch a series of radio ads to remind people they must belt up.

The decision comes after the Department for Transport revealed 14 per cent of drivers – 21 per cent of 17-34 year olds – don’t wear seatbelts.

Councillor Mel Kendal, the council’s leader for transport said: ‘People are less likely to use seatbelts on short or familiar journeys but you could still have an accident. A seatbelt could be the difference between walking away or not.’
