Hancock calls for stricter national animal test rules

MIKE Hancock has pledged his support to anti-animal testing group the National Anti-Vivisection Society.

The government has started the UK’s first review of animal testing rules in 25 years, and the Portsmouth South MP has backed NAVS’s work on the issue.

He added his support to the group’s efforts to get the Home Office to adopt stricter rules on animal experimentation.

He said: ‘This is extremely important and I was more than happy to lend my support to the latest NAVS campaign. I consider animal welfare to be an issue of paramount significance and I will continue to work hard with NAVS and with my Parliamentary colleagues to help bring forward more advanced techniques to replace the need for animal testing in the UK.’

Jan Creamer, NAVS’s chief executive, said: ‘We applaud Mike for helping strike a blow for the millions of animals who die in UK animal testing.’
