WARM words of thanks were given to one mayor as he passed the baton over to his successor in Havant today.

Councillor Paul Buckley was sworn in today as the 40th mayor of Havant in the year he celebrates his 40th wedding anniversary with wife Jackie, the new mayoress.

Cllr Buckley takes over from Cllr Gerald Shimbart, who revealed that more than £15,000 had been raised for his chosen charities during his year in office.

Proposing Cllr Buckley as mayor, Cllr Gwen Blackett said his years in the Royal Navy would stand him in good stead for the role.
