Havant Borough Council set to approve McDonald’s drive through in Bedhampton
CONTROVERSIAL plans to build a McDonald’s drive through near one of the area’s busiest roundabouts have been recommended for approval.
Planning officers at Havant Borough Council are recommending that the £1m plan is given the green light when councillors meet to debate the plans next week.
As reported, councillors decided to delay their decision last month on whether to grant planning permission to a McDonald’s at Larchwood Avenue, Bedhampton, near Asda, until further traffic reports are carried out.
Councillors said the roundabout already suffered congestion problems and more analysis was needed.
The applicant has now submitted an updated transport assessment, which deems that the Purbrook Way roundabout can cope with the predicted volumes of traffic.
A final decision will be made at a planning meeting next Wednesday at 5pm at the Public Service Plaza in Havant.

Saturday, February 25, 2012 at 07:24 PMIf you recruit from the surrounding area people can walk to work. No problem. You obviously want to control the customers as well who may well have a perfectly healthy lifestyle but choose to have a Big M occasionally on their way home from work or shopping in ASDA or B&Q. Cut the nanny state and let the customer decide what is healthy or would you shut all fish and chip shops as well or just those on your doorstep.

" -------- There are so many things wrong with that statement, where to begin?? We have a growing health problem. Fast food + drive in = sedentary life style = obesity, poor health = more expensive health care. Driving to fast food outlet = encourage use and ownership of car (cars are extremely inefficient as they are only used for travelling 10% of the their life time, no business would consider that model as suitable) = CO2 emissions = anthropogenic global warming. Jobs are needed = yes, but jobs that build Britain up and increase skills.

Saturday, February 25, 2012 at 09:28 AMWhy is it controversial? Havant says on another page it is open for business, so what is this if it is not business. Where can you buy fast food in this popular retail area with ASDA and B&Q. A catchment area where jobs are needed without the need to drive to work. Brilliant decision to recommend approval, but like the protesters I do feel the round a bout does need sorting, but not to the extent of refusing the application.

Friday, February 24, 2012 at 09:17 PMAt the previous planning meeting the committee was critical of HCC for relying on the traffic survey provided by the applicant. As I understood things, HCC was supposed to go away and conduct it's own survey. Why now has a new survey from the applicants triggered a new planning meeting?

Thursday, February 23, 2012 at 05:32 PM@comment 3-BIg Companies like mcdonalds get their own way because they have the money to get their own way.the councils dont care about the residents views they would rather give the big companies the approval to build where they want as they have the money to do that.

Thursday, February 23, 2012 at 04:02 PMIt just says 'Recommend for approval' not approved! The story title is misleading you into thinking this is a done deal! - It isn't and hasn't been voted on yet... The decission was delayed pending further traffic data collection!
