A UNION has revealed the extent of housing benefit being paid to company landlords across the region.

The GMB’s research revealed Fareham Borough Council paid £17,000 to European Wellcare Lifestyles Ltd and Havant Borough Council paid the firm £65,000.

In total, Portsmouth council paid £5,100,975.68 in housing benefit to company landlords and private individuals. Gosport paid £1,219,286, Havant paid £906,824 and Fareham £412,209.23.

Paul Kenny, GMB general secretary, said: ‘This research lifts the lid on the mainly secret payments to landlords who are the ral winners from Britain’s welfare system.’
