AN INDEPENDENT candidate has won a seat in a parish by-election.

Councillor Henry Pickett won the vote at last night’s Horndean Parish Council election.

He received 166 votes.

UK Independence Party member David Alexander had also been in the running, but lost after getting 110 votes.

The by-election was held following the resignation of Cllr Robert Sowden.

There was a 13 per cent turnout.
