A COMPLAINT has been made about a councillor’s role on the panel in charge of the probe into Mike Hancock’s conduct.

Tory councillor Steve Wemyss has told the council’s monitoring officer that Cllr Les Stevens, of the Lib Dems, should be debarred from the council’s investigation, after he told The News he was ‘protecting his friend’.

But Cllr Stevens insists that he remains completely unbiased and denies ever making the statement.

‘I am totally, totally unbiased,’ he said.

‘If I wasn’t I would walk away.’

As reported, the investigation has been delayed until the outcome of a civil case against Cllr Hancock.
