Pair of Portsmouth beaches hailed ‘excellent’ by inspectors

PORTSMOUTH politicians set up a street stall to help raise awareness of the declining honey bee population.

Members of the Liberal Democrat group took to Palmerston Road in Southsea to let shoppers know about the good work the creatures do.

They managed to collect hundreds of signatures in support and there was a visit from a Mr Bee mascot.

Southsea resident and campaigner Suzy Horton said: ‘Although the European Union has put in place a two-year restriction on the use of insecticides linked to the decline, we are concerned about what will happen after this time.

‘The UK recently voted against this restriction even though a report found these pesticides pose a high risk to bee health. Bees are a vital part of our eco system.’
