A MEETING over Mike Hancock’s political future is due to be held today.

A discussion between Mr Hancock, MP for Portsmouth South, Liberal Democrat leader Nick Clegg, deputy leader Simon Hughes and the party’s Chief Whip Alistair Carmichael will take place in the afternoon in Westminster.

As previously reported in The News, the party wants to decide whether Mr Hancock should have his parliamentary whip withdrawn following his receipt of legal papers involving a High Court civil case against him.

If they choose to remove it then Mr Hancock would be expelled from the Liberal Democrats and become an independent MP.

Mr Hancock has been accused of subjecting a Portsmouth woman to ‘upsetting sexual treatment’ over the course of 10 months after she approached him for help with a neighbourhood dispute in 2009.

He insists he is completely innocent and intends to ‘fight his corner’ in court
