MP contributes to essays asking how Britain can save children

Save the Children invited her to write an article entitled Protecting Children Affected by Conflict for its pamphlet called Our Today, Their Tomorrow: How British leadership can build a better world for children.

The works, which includes writing by Sir Andrew Witty and Baroness Chalker, will be launched at the Conservative Party Conference next month in Birmingham.

In her essay, Mrs Drummond talked about the trauma war causes to children and the consequences of child soldiers, sexual violence and a lack of access to education, particularly for girls.

Save the Children asked her to write the work because Mrs Drummond has a passionate interest in humanitarian crises in the Middle East and she is a council member of the European Council on Foreign Relations.

‘It was an honour to write the essay which I hope will at least spark some debate about the challenges we face in the world to shield children from conflict and help them cope with the trauma of their experiences,’ said Mrs Drummond.

‘It’s clear Britain is doing a great deal on the world 
stage to help with the humanitarian crisis sparked by wars in Syria, Yemen and Iraq.

‘Of course, more must be done and I hope these essays will help in that debate about what can and should 
be achieved in the coming years.’
