CHILDREN’S services will be moving to a new base in Portsmouth from next month.

Portsmouth City Council’s children’s services, such as fostering and the youth offending team, will be in one place at the civic offices.

Work is under way to accommodate the increased number of visitors expected once services relocate.

Merefield House, in Lake Road, will close to the public from April 20. Chaucer House, in Isambard Brunel Road, will close to the public using children’s services on April 13 and Medina House, in Medina Road, Cosham, will close to the public using children’s services from April 19.

The civic offices ground floor will have a revamped reception area.

Stephen Kitchman, head of children’s social care, said: ‘The move will improve services, so teams can work together face to face rather than in different buildings and that all means better service.’
