A NEW Mayor of Petersfield has been inaugurated.

Councillor Mary Vincent is to be the town’s Mayor for the next year after stepping up from deputy mayor.

The long-serving councillor, from Durford Road, was presented with the mayoral chain at the annual mayor-making ceremony. Councillor Peter Marshall was elected deputy mayor.

She said: ‘It’s about showing the Petersfield face, representing the council and town at functions. I hope to be involved when the Olympic Torch goes through town, and the Jubilee celebrations.’

During her year in office, Cllr Vincent will raise money for a new birthing pool at The Grange maternity unit.
