NEW rules on licensing buskers could put street musicians off performing, a shop owner has warned,
As reported in The News on Wednesday, Fareham Borough Council has told street performers they now need a permit to perform in public.
Paul Kimber, 53, owner of Kimber’s Keyboards, in West Street, said he supported buskers and was worried the rules would make life difficult for them.
He said: ‘My music shop completely supports the buskers.
‘I definitely disagree with them being licensed.
‘They come in to buy instruments and strings, and often they bring in their money which we change up for them. Having to apply for a permit will put performers off.’
Buskers must obtain the permits, which are free of charge, by filling out a form which asks for their name, address and the number of people who will be performing with them.
Forms can be found at the council’s civic offices.
