WORK has begun on a pair of new floodlit tennis courts at Wickham.

The courts are expected to be completed early next year, and a new tennis club is also being formed.

There will be an open evening giving an introduction to the new Wickham Community Tennis Club at the Wickham Community Centre, Mill Lane, Wickham, on Thursday January 12, from 6.30pm to 8.30pm.

Five free lessons are being offered to residents of Wickham and Knowle on a first-come, first-served basis.

There will be an opportunity to try indoor mini-tennis during the evening, with tennis goody bags and refreshments also available.

The courts are being funded through grants provided by developers’ contributions, and through the Lawn Tennis Association.
