A NEW access road is set to be built on a busy route despite concerns about safety.

Councillors at East Hampshire District Council voted to approve a new agricultural access from Whichers Gate Road on to Mays Coppice Farm in Rowlands Castle.

At a planning meeting, Rowlands Castle Parish Council stated that the current access on to the farm was safer than the proposal. Local Cllr Marge Harvey was worried that the access road could be a ‘pre-cursor’ to longer-term plans to develop the farm with housing.

But the applicant’s agent said there had been two deaths near the current access and no accidents close to the proposed access.
