THE figures that show how many names are needed on a petition to force a local referendum have been published.

The numbers are published annually, and give the total for five per cent of the electorate in each district.

A petition needs to have more than five per cent to trigger a referendum on any change to the local authorities’ governance.

From April 1, for Portsmouth City Council it will be 7,411 names, Fareham Borough Council needs 4,449, Gosport Borough Council requires 3,146 and Havant Borough Council needs 4,724.
