EXTRA support is being offered to a pensioner who said she felt abandoned by society.

Councillor Patricia Stallard, who represents Denmead, has moved to help 92-year-old Vera Moore-Heppleston, who lives at White Wings House in the village.

As reported, the retired local government worker was angry about cuts to sheltered accommodation that meant there was no on-site warden at the complex.

Cllr Stallard said there was a wealth of services on offer to the elderly, including Denmead Home Visiting Group and monthly and weekly lunches and coffee mornings, as well as exercise groups, at All Saints’ Church.

There is also a Golden Years Club at White Wings on Wednesday afternoons.

Cllr Stallard said: ‘There are, of course, many other activities on offer in the village, including a knitting group; reading group; art classes.

‘I will visit Vera and reassure her that she is most definitely not forgotten, nor isolated.’
