SMALLER recycling centres could close one day a week and people face charges to get rid of some waste.

These are just two of the proposals put forward after a consultation on Hampshire County Council’s Household Waste and Recycling Centres.

The consultation saw 6,478 responses, mainly from residents.

Of the proposals, 63 per cent of respondents said they did not want to see sites close and 69 per cent agreed businesses should be charged.

The council said no centres will close during the current contract but any new deal could include provision to allow that to happen.

A decision is due on November 4.
