DOGS are welcome in most of Fareham’s council properties, according to the council leader.

Cllr Sean Woodward said he had received scores of letters and e-mails last week enquiring whether people moving into council homes, particularly homeless people, could take their pets with them.

He said that pets are allowed in 2,100 of Fareham’s council properties – 92 per cent of its housing stock, and also in its 18-room homeless hostel.

He added the council works with the PDSA and RSPCA so pets can receive treatment.
