PLANS to turn a car retailer into a restaurant will go before a planning committee meeting this afternoon.

Portsmouth City Council’s planning committee will consider the application to redevelop the current home of Southsea Motor Factors, on the corner of Grove Road South and Merton Road.

There has already been opposition to the plan over parking, noise and litter concerns, and a belief the area already has enough eateries.

As previously reported in The News, 61 people have signed a petition opposing the application.

Martin Critchley Architects has submitted the application on behalf of the property owner. A report prepared by council officers recommends that councillors on the committee approve the restaurant with some conditions.

The meeting will be in the executive meeting room on the third floor of the Portsmouth Guildhall from 5pm and is open to the public.
