PLANS for a controversial solar farm have been withdrawn at the last minute.
A meeting by Fareham Borough Council’s planning committee to discuss whether the 58 hectare facility on land between south Fareham and Stubbington should go ahead or not had been due to take place tomorrow.
As reported in The News, planning officers had recommended that the proposals by German firm IB Vogts be rejected.
The £40m plans had divided the community - 196 letters of objection, plus 46 letters and a 212 name petition of support were sent to the council.
Council leader, Cllr Sean Woodward said: ‘They have given us no reason why, just an email from the agents to say they are withdrawing the application.
‘Obviously there will be an awful lot of people breathing a sigh of relief around Stubbington this afternoon.
‘It’s most bizarre after all the work they have put in to it.’
