FRESH plans to build a scuba-diving lagoon near Emsworth have been submitted to a council.

Proposals for a lagoon at the Hairspring Watercress Farm, Hambrook, were withdrawn in April last year, but have now been redesigned.

The original plans were for a lagoon 60ft deep, but this has been reduced to about 40ft.

The application caused controversy last year as residents were worried about the impact on traffic.

The farm has been given permission by the Highways Agency to use the bridleway off Broad Road to allow access for visitors.

Applicant Richard Scales said: ‘We are no longer going to have water flowing into it and out of it. It’s going to have an internal filter, and it’s no longer going to have a bank around it – it’s at ground level.’

The application will now be considered by Chichester District Council.
