FIVE people have thrown their hats into the ring for a council by-election next month.

A by-election for the Portchester East seat on Fareham Borough Council will take place on March 15.

The need for a by-election was triggered by last month’s resignation of Lib Dem councillor Chris Brown.

He resigned as he felt he was unable to give the role the attention it needed because of work commitments.

The candidates include Geoff Fazackarley for the Lib Dems, independent Manny Martins, Richard Ryan for Labour, John Vivian for the Greens and Alison Walker for the Conservatives.

Anyone living in the ward who wants to vote should make sure they are registered by February 29. Details of polling stations will be released closer to the date.
