THE leader of Portsmouth City Council has urged Penny Mordaunt to discuss her action plan with the authority.

Tory Councillor Donna Jones says she has been left ‘completely in the dark’ over the Portsmouth North MP’s proposals to tackle congestion in the region.

But she hopes it will help with her own efforts to secure money from the Solent Local Enterprise Partnership for a one-way road system in the city centre, which is valued at about £20m.

Cllr Jones said: ‘It all seems very interesting, I know nothing about any of the details and Penny hasn’t spoken with me about it.

‘But it seems like an interesting proposal and one which I would support.

‘The Boris Bike scheme was an aspiration I thought of a year ago.

‘The key is getting a company to sponsor it; the original scheme across London was sponsored by Barclays bank.

‘As for transport hit squad officials coming in, if Penny is serious about this and thinks it can get off the ground, then I would urge her to speak to me about it as I am completely in the dark.

‘The key to congestion and traffic in the city is to come up with parking solutions and about how we can get cars off the road.’
