CLOSE to £200,000 of taxpayers’ money was spent supporting Portsmouth’s America’s Cup World Series.

The city council says the majority of the money went towards a park-and-ride service for the event.

Although money was expected to be made from the park and ride, it was hindered due to the bad weather and the event being cancelled on the last day of racing.

But the council says the investment has proven worthwhile, with the local economy benefiting from almost 250,000 people attending the four-day spectacle, put together by Team Origin.
