SUSPECTED blue badge fraudsters in Portsmouth have once again been punished in the latest parking clampdown.

Portsmouth City Council carried out the operation last week and removed 20 vehicles from the city’s streets.

Among those targeted included blue badge fraudsters.

Other vehicles impounded following the sting included those that had not been taxed and some with at least five unpaid penalty charge notices.

Cllr Jim Fleming, the council’s cabinet member for traffic and transportation, witnessed the operation.

He said: ‘In some areas of the city considerable pressure on parking exists, so it is important to ensure that people who park in contravention are penalised.

‘The operation at the weekend gave me insight into the role of the enforcement officers and it was good to see action being taken against inconsiderate owners to make it fairer for the majority of residents who do park legally and sensibly.’
