PORTSMOUTH South MP Mike Hancock voted in favour of a bill that would enshrine in law the UK’s commitment to spending 0.7 per cent of national spend on overseas aid.

The bill, which was included in all three party manifestos in 2010, will help fulfil the government and the country’s pledge to care for the world’s poorest and confirm this in law.

Mr Hancock said: ‘I am proud to represent Portsmouth South and I know how important this issue is to people in Portsmouth.

‘I believe it is right that we fulfil our commitment to meeting our aid promise and enshrine it in law. We have a duty to care for the world’s poorest.’
