UNDER-fire MP Mike Hancock has been admitted to hospital, his office has said.

The Portsmouth South MP and Fratton ward councillor recently stepped down from his position on the cabinet of Portsmouth City Council following claims of sexual misconduct.

A statement on his official website said he had been ‘in hospital since the end of last week and will remain so for some time’.

His offices in London and Portsmouth remain open, the statement added.

Mr Hancock, who was suspended from the national Liberal Democrat party over the same claims, has a history of heart problems and recurring ill-health.

He had a number of operations in 2012, both at Queen Alexandra Hospital in Cosham and Southampton General.
