A SERIES of appointments was confirmed after the first meeting of West Sussex County Council since the May 2 elections.

Conservative Councillor Louise Goldsmith, who represents Chichester West, has been confirmed as county council leader for the next four years.

The deputy leader is Cllr Christine Field.

Cllr Amanda Jupp, who has represented Billingshurst since 2009, was elected new chairman of the county council.

Her vice chairman will be Cllr Nigel Peters, who represents the Arundel and Wick Division.

A further six councillors have been appointed to cabinet positions, leading services such as highways, finance and adult services. Cllr Heidi Brunsdon will chair planning.
