A SCHEME to encourage people to get into athletics has been praised by a councillor.

Peter Edgar, in charge of education matters at Hampshire County Council, has spoken highly of their Hampshire Talented Athlete Scheme. His comments come after Team GB returned home yesterday from the Olympic Games in Rio.

Cllr Edgar said: ‘It is marvellous to see so many benefitting from sport and achieving great things.

‘Thanks to our scheme, two Olympians and five Paralympians have benefitted from its support helping them to follow their dreams and compete in the world arena.’
