PRIME Minister David Cameron has renewed his commitment to see commercial shipbuilding being pursued in Portsmouth.
Responding to a question by city MP Penny Mordaunt during Prime Minister’s Questions about whether he supported the initiative, Mr Cameron said: ‘I am aware of this interesting project and there will be a meeting of the business department shortly.
‘There is so much interest in this commercial sector.’
Mr Cameron also praised MP Michael Fallon’s appointment as the new minister for Portsmouth, and said the government needed to ‘stick to the economic plan’ and ‘keep delivering for Portsmouth.’
He also praised Ms Mordaunt for the work she has done of late for Portsmouth and ‘for all things maritime’ – a reference to her appearance in ITV diving programme Splash!
