THE MP for Portsmouth South has pledged her support to the ‘in campaign’ to stay in Europe.

Mrs Drummond says she has ‘always been’ pro-Europe and believes staying in the union is best for businesses.

It comes despite Portsmouth North MP Penny Mordaunt declaring her support for the Brexit campaign.

Mrs Drummond said:’I have always been pro-Europe and said so in the run up to the General Election.

‘I think the economic argument being in the largest free market in the world without tariffs or import taxes is very important for our businesses.

‘We invest just £140 per head to be part of this market with a return of roughly £3000 per head. Trade with the EU is very important to us here in Portsmouth.

‘I have been working closely with a group of MPs since I was elected to see what we could do to make sure that the positive message about Europe is highlighted and I will continue to work with this group leading up to the election on how we make the EU work better for us.’
