Pensioners protested to defend their right to age-related benefits at Westminster yesterday.

The Hands Off The Bus Pass demonstration, organised by the National Pensioners Convention, opposed the suggestion that universal benefits – including bus passes – should be means-tested.

June Clarkson, 79, from Portsmouth, said: ‘While I doubt any of us would be isolated at home as a result, we would not be able to go out and about and do voluntary work, or visit friends and family as much. It would curtail our social life.’
