SCORES of people are expected to attend a public meeting to voice their concerns about plans to build a civil engineering depot on Hayling Island.

Following huge opposition, Brenchley Civil Engineering Ltd has scaled down its plans for Howard’s Yard, a former car scrapping site off Mill Rythe Lane.

But many residents remain unhappy.

Brenchley, which has a depot at Farlington and carries out highway repairs, wants a storage area for lorries and a recycling machine for some of the materials that are dug up during roadworks.

Hayling councillor Leah Turner said: ‘My objection remains the amount of traffic coming on and off the island.’

Hampshire County Council is expected to make a decision in May.

The meeting starts at 1.15pm on Saturday at Hayling Island Community Centre.
