AN AIRFIELD’S runway is due to reopen after a multimillion pound cash injection.

Fareham Borough Council and the Homes and Community Agency will hold the opening ceremony of the upgraded Daedalus Airfield runway at the Solent Enterprise Zone on Tuesday, March 10.

Council leader Sean Woodward said he was looking forward to the event and that the site’s overall £50m redevelopment would bring a boost to the area’s jobs and economy.

However, a new junction into the site has caused controversy after scores of residents wrote to the council to object to it.

Cllr Woodward said if the council refused the plans, then it could be liable to pay millions of pounds to the applicant – the Homes and Communities Agency.

He said: ‘Ward councillor Tim Knight has been working with the county council to minimise the junction’s impact on Stubbington Lane.’

The junction will go to the council’s planning committee on Wednesday at 2.30pm.
