THE management of council allotments could be changing.

Around 150 allotment holders from across Havant borough attended a meeting at The Plaza in Havant.

There are proposals to give allotment holders more powers over the management and maintenance of their facilities.

Paul Neary, from the National Society of Allotment Gardeners, gave a presentation on the subject and spoke about site stewards who could help the council with management.

A council report states: ‘Paul explained that it is possible to start small with site stewards or informal associations and if successful to progress to full self-management.’

A show of hands at the end of the meeting indicated that tenants were interested in looking further at the scheme.
