Road forced to close ahead of repair work

HAMPSHIRE County Council has confirmed that work to repair a road in Hill Head will begin on Tuesday.

As reported, Meon Road in Hill Head has suffered from flooding and is covered with potholes. The work is expected to last six weeks.

A spokeswoman for the council said: ‘The works will renew and improve the existing surface water drainage of Meon Road at Meon Marsh, by installing new gullies and pipes to drain the surface water run-off to the disused canal.

‘We will also be strengthening the side of the road and carrying out localised resurfacing to repair the edges of the highway which have been damaged by vehicles at Meon Marsh.

‘We will do all we can to minimise disruption during the works, but we will need to close Meon Road at Meon Marsh, near the sea-lock and bridge over the disused canal.

‘The diversion route for road users will be from Titchfield via Bridge Street, B3334 Titchfield Lane, Bells Lane, Crofton Lane and Hill Head Road to Meon Road.’
