A COUNCILLOR has spoken out over much-criticised plans for a sailing club’s new building.

Councillor Derek Kimber, member for Lee East at Gosport Borough Council said the Lee-on-the-Solent Sailing Club does vital work.

There have been 16 objections to the plans to build the club at Marine Parade East in the town.

But officers have recommended the plans should be approved.

Cllr Kimber said: ‘It is important Lee-on-the-Solent has a sailing club. The amount of work they do for the community, it is vital.

‘The current site has a leaky roof and needs this redevelopment.’

‘And the vast majority of locals are in favour of the new plans.’

Alison Roast, the planning member at Lee Residents Association, said the objection was over bringing the building forward.

As reported, a meeting on Monday will see councillors vote on the plans.
