AROUND 150 homeowners received a shock today when they received a letter stating their homes will be bulldozed.

The letters were sent to around 150 property owners in the Stubbington area.

The letter had been sent in error on behalf of Hampshire County Council, and stated the homes may be subject to being compulsorily purchased and demolished to make way for the Stubbington bypass.

Executive member for transport at the county council Cllr Sean Woodward said it was a clerical error and letters should have only gone to five landowners. He wanted to reassure people that no homes are intended to be bulldozed to make way for the new road.

Officials will be hand posting apology letters tomorrow.

Stubbington ward Cllr Jim Forrest said: ‘At first I thought it was a really a cruel hoax. It is a breathtaking error.’
