A SOUTHSEA councillor says he is committed to his civic duties despite spending some of his time in Aldershot.

Political rivals have repeatedly claimed Lib Dem Lee Hunt is living 50 miles away in the military town with his partner, Richard Adair, and not effectively serving his constituents.

I do my work and do everything I can for my ward, and I also see Richard because I have a different lifestyle to other people.

But Cllr Hunt insists he lives in Southsea but also spends some of his time in Aldershot as that is where Mr Adair lives.

And he has hit back at the Conservatives for trying to undermine him.

Cllr Hunt told The News: ‘I don’t live in Aldershot with him (Mr Adair). I have got my house in Portsmouth and I come up to Aldershot to see him. We share our lives together.

‘It’s a bullying pursuit – it’s nonsensical. I do my work and do everything I can for my ward.

‘I also see Richard because I have a different lifestyle to other people.

‘Who I see, what I do and who my friends are nothing to do with the newspaper.’

But Tory deputy council leader Luke Stubbs said: ‘It’s absolutely an important question where councillor’s live.’

It comes after Tory members criticised former Portsmouth Lib Dem Nassar Kessell for posting a Facebook status quoting Lib Dem Hannah Ashworth as saying: ‘Joining the Tories is like joining IS’.
