HARD working and an exceptional representative.

That is how West Sussex County councillor Mick Hodgson has been remembered by his colleagues.

Cllr Hodgson represented the Warnham and Rusper electoral division, and was vice-chairman of the council from 2009 until May this year.

Louise Goldsmith, leader of the authority, said: ‘Mick was a lovely man and a very hard-working county councillor.

‘He will be sadly missed, and I extend my sympathies to his family.’

The married father-of-three was also chairman of the county council’s planning committee from 2003 to 2009.

A chartered surveyor, his special interest was the countryside.

Cllr Goldsmith added: ‘He represented our county exceptionally well in his role as vice-chairman attending a wide range of events.

‘He was always a tremendous ambassador for West Sussex.’

A by-election will be arranged in due course.

Nominations for the vacancy will close at noon on Friday, August 30.

A list of candidates will be published on Tuesday, September 3.

It comes after county councillor Frank Wilkinson, who had represented Storrington since 1997, died in July.

Voters in that division go to the polls on Thursday, September 26.
