SEVENTY unsung heroes received praise at an awards event run by the county council.

Hampshire County Council’s Good Neighbour Awards honour residents who make a positive difference to the life of others in their communities.

The 10th annual awards were hosted by chairman of the county council, Councillor Ken Thornber at a special ceremony in the Great Hall, Winchester, on Thursday, March 20.

Cllr Thornber said: ‘Each year I am taken aback by the selfless commitment so many people make, expecting no thanks or recognition.

‘I hope that through these awards we are able to show the value we place on the activities and support provided by all our Good Neighbours. Everyone who was nominated for an award should be proud – they are an inspiration to us all and deserve this recognition.’
