PLANS to prune trees along a major route into a town have caused a stir.
People behind the Oceanic Estates development at the old Cyanamid factory at 154 Fareham Road in Gosport, want to cut back 25 trees and chop two down completely.
Councillor Dennis Wright, ward member for Bridgemary, said the council recently put tree preservation orders on the trees.
He said: ‘They’re now saying they’re in a bad condition. We had to fight to get tree preservation orders.’
A tree expert has said they should be pruned for good husbandry and canopy clearance.
He said the two horse chestnut trees should be felled as one is dead and the other is damaged.
Vincent Ashby has objected on the council’s planning portal. He said: ‘What’s the point in putting a TPO on the trees in the first place when you are going to have a line of telegraph poles with some green leaves on the top?’
