A CALL is being made for more parish councillors so big decisions are made locally.

Several councillors in Westbourne are stepping down in May and the search is now on for people who are prepared to carry on the good work.

Richard Hitchcock. a parish councillor for Westbourne, said: ‘It would seem that, as funding is cut at district and council levels, the role of the parish council is becoming ever more significant.

‘More decisions – it would appear – are to be made at a local level, something which is borne out by the recent Localism Bill and the advent of neighbourhood plans.’

Cllr Hitchcock said parish councils were the ‘grass roots tier of local government’.

Nomination forms are available from Val Owen on (01243) 373382 or from Chichester District Council. The deadline for delivery of nominations is 4pm on April 9.
