‘SNOW angels’ should be recruited in order to help keep roads and pavements clear during cold periods.

Councillor Michael Andrewes and Councillor Lynne Stagg have proposed a motion, which will be debated next Tuesday, that Portsmouth should consider introducing the scheme.

The volunteers would be given bags of grit, hi-visibility vests, gloves and a snow scoop and some basic training.

Cllr Andrewes said: ‘These type of schemes have proven popular and effective elsewhere in the country with some areas having up to 500 volunteers.’
