MULTI-million-pound plans to transform a leisure centre were endorsed by council leaders.

The Conservative cabinet at Havant Borough Council approved officials to continue working up plans for Waterlooville Leisure Centre.

The centre is owned by the council and run by Horizon Leisure Centres, a charitable company.

As reported, the plan would see the current gym quadruple in size by adding an extension to the existing building in Waterberry Drive.

This scheme would cost around £800,000.

The second phase of the project would involve building a sports facility – such as a sports hall – paid for by developers’ contributions.

A formal planning application will now be drawn up and submitted to the council.
