YOUNGSTERS will enjoy pony and donkey rides at a new feature at this year’s heavy horse show, on Castle Field, Southsea.

And an impressive sheepdog display will take place at the show for the first time. There will also be displays from the K9 Kapers dog show, the Gales national heavy horse obstacle driving championships, and a heavy horse parade with around 30 horses, at the event which runs from next Saturday to Monday May 7.

Now in its 27th year, the Portsmouth City Council-organised heavy horse show attracts between 5,000 and 10,000 visitors a day.

There will be stalls, a craft market and a vintage tearoom at the free event, open from 10am to 5pm on all three days.
